Have you ever looked through your mother or grandmother’s drawers and found their old jewelry? More often than not, you would find beaded necklaces with earthy colors such as orange, green and browns. Necklaces with large bronze pendants were also the top fashion in the 60’s and 70’s. Vintage jewelry is back in the game, but now it is easier than ever to make your own vintage necklaces. First off find the beads you want to make your necklace out of. Do not be afraid to mix and match. Different colored beads are what make the necklace personal and unique. Look for glass beads, ceramic beads, and large pendants. Thrift stores and vintage stores are usually the place to look if you’re into a little bit of risk. Once you have found your beads, decide on which closure you want to use. Whether it is a snap, or a clip, or a screw on, make sure the color you choose matches the over all look you are going for. Next, wash the beads in a bowl of dish soap. Dish soap makes the beads look like new and will take away any grime or dirt left on the beads and closures. Once the beads are dry, lay them out on a dry towel along with some fishing line for the thread. Hemp can be used as well but it may be more difficult to work with. Set up the beads and pendants in the order that you want to string it and begin working. You will have a vintage necklace ready to show off in no time. Vintage necklaces are a fun way to spend time with friends and be as fashionable as you can be.
